Photoshop Phriday: Chris Wormley
From my sophomore through senior years at Michigan I gave just over 300 campus tours for the Offices of Undergraduate Admissions and University Development, a record that I think is as unbreakable as Cal Ripken’s consecutive games streak. One of the perks of being a well-seasoned tour guide was the opportunity to give tours to some higher profile visitors or unique groups. The summer after graduation in 2011 I was one of a few guides selected to give a campus tour a group of football recruits visiting for what was called the BBQ at the Big House. After the tour then newly hired head coach Brady Hoke invited us to tag along for the rest of the afternoon. We got to tour the football facilities and join everyone for lunch in the suite level of Michigan Stadium (watching those guys eat was an impressive sight).
One of the visitors that day was Chris Wormley, then a rising high school senior. Four and a half years later Wormley is a standout defensive end for the Wolverines. Wormley redshirted his freshman year after an ACL tear but has taken on a continually bigger role each year since. 2015 was a breakout year for him; he made more tackles this past season (43) then he had in the past two combined (40). Wormley came up big time and again this season with 6.5 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss. The Michigan defense was one of the best in the country last year and Wormley figures to be a big part of next year’s defensive front. They didn’t have fauxrizo turkey burgers at the BBQ at the Big House, but rumor has it that Wormley frequently asks the chefs to prepare them specially for him (Photo credit Luna Anna Archey).
