Photoshop Phriday: Kenny Allen
The Michigan football team has had some incredibly nerve wracking games over the past few years and last week’s double overtime win against Indiana certainly counts. I was spared a bit of the anxiety that undoubtedly would have come with watching the end of the game because my sister got married on Saturday night. The last update I got before the ceremony was that Kenny Allen had kicked a field goal to put Michigan ahead 27-26. Within a few minutes of the ceremony ending several people made sure to let me know that Michigan had pulled out the win.
While that Kenny Allen field goal would not be the game’s decisive score Allen has stepped up in an unexpected role as the team’s place kicker this season. Kenny Allen came to Michigan in 2012 as a walk-on kicker/punter after turning down scholarship offers to other schools. It seemed that he might be Michigan’s punter in 2014 but he didn’t see action when Will Hagerup came back to punt and Matt Wile took over the other kicking duties. This year Allen has made 15/18 field goals for Michigan and in the process earned himself a scholarship.
